Here is an all purpose Pokemon thread for all things Pokemon!
Here you discuss the games, the show, the cards, the pokemon in other games, or anything that you little heart desires!
What is everyone's favorite Pokemon and why?
1. Tyranitar, he is giant and ferocious
2. Mew, because I actually have one and it took me forever to get because I already fought the guy in route 22 that you're supposed to glitch it with.......
3. Charmander, he was my very first pokemon in the games (along with my red version) and my very first pokemon card ever! and he's totally beast!!!!

Tyler D., I edited the majority of the grammar and spelling errors to make your post easier on the eyes...
Missingno - A really cool glitch. I don't like him because of the benefits, I like him because of the way you have to find him. It's interesting...
Typhlosion - Something about him screams RRARRARAR FIRE. I have 2 of them level 100
Haunter - The episode with him was pure lulz.

Wow...A...Pokemon thread? I thought that would've come months ago. Anyway, Tyranitar hands down. He's just so awesome. Giga Impact FTW. Salamence, Alakazam, and Mewtwo are almost as awesome. They all have good special attack, which is the only way to go.

Pretty much. I played yellow (only bought it to complete my Silver Pokedex), gave it to a friend, and never got it back. Silver's balance was pretty decent, and the tiers weren't as pronounced (even Jolteon was the better electric due to speed, Ampharos will always take that slot on my team).
Speaking of which, here was my Silver Team
Lugia @ Leftovers Psychic Recover Aeroblast Surf
This one was one of my better done Pokemon. Surf is expendable but works well against anything that might absorb Flying/Psychic attacks.
Lapras @ Leftovers Ice Beam Surf Body Slam ?
Perish Song and Rest would be good moves to add, as Rest was actually usable in this generation with a nice Berry.
Ampharos Thunder Punch Fire Punch Ice Punch Thunder
Replace Thunder Punch with Thunderbolt and Thunder with a supportive move, and I could have done wonders with this slow electric sheep.
Dragonite Outrage Hyper Beam Ice Beam Thunderbolt
I would need a Berry to heal confusion and maybe replace Hyper Beam, as it opens an opportunity for an easy kill. Wing Attack is good too.
Tyranitar Rock Slide Earthquake' Crunch (Something Random)
Roar. That is what I need.
Houndoom Sunny Day Solarbeam Flamethrower Crunch
Making Houndoom focus more for Pursuit and not a Sunnybeamer might be better...
Not the best team, but if I had my Silver with new batteries, I would create an unstoppable team. Could switch for Suicune, Donphan, Alakazam, Raikou, and...there's probably something else. If I can revive my Silver, I will create the ultimate team!

Nice team, Robert. I never got too technical with Pokemon; I just got Pokemon that seemed good from my own experiences and trained them. Here is my team (all of them are level 100 except lv 96 espeon: EDIT: Gah, it seems like my Gameboy is dead. I just put new batteries and it still won't turn on. I can probably get a new one for cheap though. I don't remember what attacks they had but I'll do my best. Espeon (can't remember move set) Freraligator Surf (can't remember move set) Ho-oh with sacred ash Ancient Power Fly Flamethrower (?) Scizor with focus band Cant remember Typhlosion with leftovers Flamethrower Thunder Punch Earthquake Hyper Beam Typhlosion (yes, I had two) with leftovers Same Maybe the batteries I got are just bad, I'll have to recheck tomorrow.

My team probably could have used Skarmory and Donphan, but o well.
Anthony: Your team needs more defensive Pokemon and Scizor should be a Baton Passer. Plus, you need more physical attackers in your team.
Tyler: Be wary. Ubers are usually banned, but some play with 1. Feraligatr is not good until DP because of the Special/Physical split, so use a better water type like Suicune, Kingdra, or Lapras.
All: A good team setup, especially in GSC where defense isn't useless, would be 3 Attackers (Some physical, some special) 1 Special Defender 1 Physical Defender 1 Whatever your team needs -Try to have Rapid Spin (to clear pesky Spikes), Heal Bell (to get rid of status effects that can make or break a game), and Toxic (lethal and usually forces a switch, meaning you could predict and kill the healer). -Banned tactics: Only one pokemon can be put to sleep, no double team, no using Celebi, Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, and Ho-oh in standard play, and you cannot use Blissey and Skarmory in the same team (not legal til Ruby/Sapphire). -Cover you weaknesses (do not make everyone weak to water or electric) and make sure you cannot be walled (do not have a pokemon that only heals/supports and has no attacks, so if it is the final, you won't automatically lose).

Actually, take the last one back. It may be possible to stall so long you force your opponent to Struggle themselves to death, but that is very unlikely.

Thanks for the tips. I'm thinking about playing competitive Pokemon with my Silver Version. Robert, do you think you can get your hands on a working gameboy with a working silver/gold version? It seems like I can learn a lot from you.
I was thinking about getting Blissy. What moves should she have to make her good? Also, can you explain what Baton Passer is? And what do you mean by physical attackers? Remember, I never got into competitive pokemon, I just simply raised all my pokemon to level 100 and gave them protein, calcium, etc. You're going to have to explain the terms you use.

I have to replace my battery in Silver, but I have my trusty GBA.
A Baton Passer basically uses moves like Agility or Swords Dance to boost a stat like crazy, then uses Baton Pass to pass those stat changes to someone else. Take Rhydon. He is pretty slow but is incredibly powerful. If he was baton passed Agility, he could sweep (dominate without a chance to fire back) a team withour Skarmory.
Blissey should have Heal Bell, Softboiled, Growl/Sing, and Ice Beam (so you are not walled). Blissey is very good at walling special attacks, so if your team has a Special weakness, choose her. Miltank and Snorlax also do well, both more physically adept and less sturdy.
We will have the best schoolwide or more GSC competitive scene. Think of Brawl Toruney's with a nice Pokemon Tourney too. I like it (but we have to make sure no one uses Vitamins like Protein and whatnot, because there is no limit in GSC on how many you can take).

Is a Baton Passer worthy of having on a team?
About Blissey, how good is growl? I know it lowers some kind of special (is it defense?), but I think sing would be more beneficial since it puts them to sleep and you get free hits. How do you get a Blissey anyways?
Frank is going to get into competitive pokemon too. I just convinced him. He will be using Gold Version but I'll trade him some of my Pokemon so he won't be left behind. He's going to duplicate them and then trade them back so I still have all 251.
Also, which Pokemon would you suggest having on a team? Are any of the Pokemon I have right now worthy?
Oh yeah, is Tyranitar still good in GSC?

To get Blissey, you must make Chansey very happy (massage it, battle with it, heal it, et cetera). Blissey is insanely good. It can take Special hits like no one else. Growl is a lot more useful in GSC than any other generation simply because it could force a switch then (for there weren't broken items).
Espeon and Scizor are very good. Tyranitar will always be amazing. Houndoom, Alakazam, Jolteon, Lapras, most Fighting types, Marowak, Rhydon, and some others are really good. The main thing is making sure your team is balanced and has more of an offensive edge, for stall teams are risky. A good way to build a team is to focus on one Pokemon; for example, say you really want Houndoom. Houndoom is a Special Attacker weak to Rock, Ground, Bug, Fighting, Water, and he mainly uses Fire and Dark attacks. Being a special attacker means he will need support to take down a special wall, and his weaknesses/attacks make Water escpecially dangerous (resists Fire and is supereffective). You pretty much go from there to see what you need to make it balanced.
PM/IM Jason. His insight will be far superior, although he is mainly into DPP competitively. GSC is a good start, as it is more defensive. You guys will need a vocab lesson soon.
