Knowledge time! This episode will detail the wonders of Pokemon Tiers!
Everything is referenced around Standard, or OU Tier. These are the most balanced and used of the bunch, like Tyranitar and Starmie. This is the Standard Metagame.
Above OU is Ubers, where most Legendary, Wobbufett, and Garchomp belong. Anything in Ubers is too powerful for OU. Ubers is an incredibly awkward tier simply because everything is so powerful, the battles are fast. Anything goes in this tier.
Below OU is BL, a leftovers tier where Pokemon not quite strong enough but still viable in OU belong. Also, Pokemon very good but outclassed are here. Donphan is a very good Rapid Spinner, but Forretress is much better and has better typing, meaning Donphan is BL (outclassed) and Forretress BL.
Below BL is UU (Underused), where stuff not powerful enough to go into OU goes. It is an interesting metagame.
Below UU is NU (Never Used), where pure crap goes. Basically too weak for UU.
NFE (Not Fully Evolved) is where Charmander goes.

Oooh ok. I was just talking to Willis and he likes using UU. He said he had a delibird team and a lupunny team or something. I think he said lupunny. It's a bunny with long ears and is supposed to look girly.

Lopunny, yea.
Oh, I forgot to include another reason for being BL: can't switch in. Take Houndoom. Houndoom is amazing, and with Nasty Plot (Swords Dance for Special Attack), he can devastate. So why isn't he OU? Well, if there is Stealth Rock out, he will lose 25% of his health everytime he switches in, and he has mediocre defenses as it is, so he will not last long without major Wish and Rapid Spin support.

Melee has like 50 metagames lol.
Some examples: C-stick spamming Projectile spamming Mediocre play (Wes, Rob) Intermediate mediocre play (Tyler, Robert, Jimmy) Advanced mediocre play (Me and eric's style) Wavecheat hax play (Jason style) Way too good at this game play (mew2king style)
There are also sub-metagame styles, such as learning different strategies to beat other strategies. Such as DIing a certain way to escape certain combos, using shine to escape chain grabs. In Brawl, a common example would be working with Diddy's bananas. We have seen the metagame change with him, and it shows in the tier lists.

Well, Pokemon has those intermediate metagames too, and aren't the lower ones usually dictated by the top ones (holy zomg MK became top tier time t olearn him).
Plus, Pokemon is complex because you have 270 Pokemon viable to compete with 2-20 movesets each, each part of a 6 man team. That is 270^6 teams (387420489000000 teams). Although some UniTeams would be stupid an inefficient, you could have somewhere up there. Pokemon evolves by the day, with 100s of strategies.
Both are incredibly complex metagames.

Pokemon is more number-based while Melee is reflexes and taking advantage of the physics. It's hard to compare the two.
What Melee metagame-tier thingy am I in? I think I'm in between Intermediate and Advanced Mediocre Play...

Yeah Lucco, I think you're right about the "can't compare the metagames".
And yeah you're somewhere between the intermediate and advanced mediocre play. I debate which side because you hardly have any tech skill but you have a knack for the game and you have good spacing.

Don't forget that crazy shit I pull with my mindgames. On another note, I will learn tech skillz eventually. I'm grounded now, so I can't, but LATER. Later I'll do it. Yay forced procrastination.

Melee has like 50 metagames lol. Mediocre play (Wes, Rob) i completely resent that statement on the grounds that i really can't get better due to a lack of access to melee and brawl. if i had my stuff from california (like my GC and melee) i would be able to compete with you guys quite well. but for now i choose to mess around.

It's not really a diss, it's just a fact. You're basically on par with Wesley, for whatever reason or another. ACCEPT IT. ACCEPT IT IN THE BUTT.

Robert said you have his copy of Melee.
Besides, you shouldn't resent that. We all need to learn to accept our flaws. Everyone here sucks at Melee. Even Jason - he thinks he does too.
