This thread is for anything and everything we have discussed, or you would like to discuss, at Burger King.
(Jimmy, can you post the notes from yesterday?)

Ok, after the BK meeting when we were walking back to school, I was talking to Adamzack and Robert. I was telling them that the leadership and the upper-classmen set the atmosphere for attitude, motivation, and competition.
We had a really good discussion on Friday, but we came to little to no agreement. We mainly discussed our opinions, which is fine, but on our next meetings we need to come up with agreements.
Whether you like it or not, a lot of the problem is our fault. If the veterans are serious, then the rookies are serious. If the veterans are competitive, then the rookies are competitive.
My sister gave us a surprise visit from UGA yesterday. I was talking to her about it and she said I was exactly right. When she was in leadership, the band had meetings almost every single day trying to find ways to keep us motivated. We're still having that same problem now. The reason why we can't figure out the problem is because we have poisoned our minds with bad attitude and all of us blaming it on Mote. None of us want it to be our fault, so we blame it on Mote. The truth is WE set examples, WE are the leaders, it is OUR fault.

Aye, and I was talking with Justin, and he said that we need to stop focusing on Mote; there is little we can do. Plus, I realized that all of the time and energy we would put into the Mote issue would get nowhere near as much as accomplished as focusing on improving morale, unity, and skill. Does this mean we ignore Mote? No, but we put him at a secondary priority to the band, the most important aspect of this program.

I think we should use this thread for things that need to be discussed in the future. We need to AGREE on things, not just discuss them.

Really, that's ludicrous. AND LIEK MENTIONED ABOVE START TAKING ACTION, YOU SLACKERS. I get so sick and tired of reading and hearing your discussions/arguments without anything actually being done about it. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. That saying is 100 percent true.

I don't know about you guys, but I practice what I preach. I blame Mote for a lot of things, there's no doubt about that, but I don't let that paralyze me. I get around the band. I talk to kids. I try to facilitate a generally positive atmosphere. Mote doesn't help. My point about the BK meetings is we need to brainstorm and agree on ways to work around the generally negative attitude a lot of kids have because of Mote.

You guys can, but I'm out of town. I'll try to get the notes posted, but it pro'ly won't happen.
And as a general note to everyone: it does nothing for you to reply to a post by saying "Well, I do this so I must be better than you and you should all look up to me and I never did anything wrong." That makes your sound like a snob and a jackass. I don't care if you cured cancer (which would be good and all), but that's the past and we're talking about the future. Don't talk about what you did, talk about what we need to do in the future and what will be accomplished. Otherwise your just waiting for someone to refute you and start an argument.
On that matter, we need to motivate the band. We need to keep spirits high. I will work with my section and will talk with any amount of others that i come in contact with.

It's the freshman that need to be more spirited. The rest of the band understands what it takes to be in band and they enjoy doing it, but the freshman don't yet. It's not their faults, we just need to teach/show them (take your pick).

is it to much to ask for both?
plus its not the freshman that are the problem
there has been only 1 freshman quit because his parents made him
its the upperclassmen that have the worst additude

Whatever. I'm not going around preaching happiness to people. I'll lead by example. Still, the freshman don't get it yet.

Yeah, I've talked to Marleigh. Her uncle's a band director. A lot of the freshman still don't get what it takes to succeed in band. Jonathan doesn't. Some of the saxaphones don't. Some of the saxaphones fear me. Mostly Michael. Whoops.
