No, it is a sport. But to be said it's as strenuous as football is ridiculous. Have you ever seen the movie "We are the Titans"? Marching Band is not like that. Dci is more hard core then that once again instead of two a days like hard core fottball teams have hardcore Dci teams have ALL A DAYS!!!!!!!! and for TWO MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't imagine DCI doing harder stuff than football drills.

If Marching isn't a sport and doesn't deserve a PE credit. Than how do you explain ROTC getting PE credit. They work out, and they work hard but from what I've marching band does is a lot more work. ROTC isn't easy, I know I'm not saying it is. Lucco, I played Basketball and Baseball neither was easy but i still think marching band is more challenging physically, and of course mentally.

Marching band is a sport.
Wikipedia says: "Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports (a common name for some card games and board games with little to no element of chance) and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors." "Even when marking time, it is often considered good form for all band members to stay in step." lol wut? Only "often"?

Sports: 10% physical, 90% mental... Marching band is the same. If you want to be one of those math wizards and say it's 90% physical and the other half is mental, that works too.

Sorry Michael, but the 10% physical 90% mental thing is a load of crap they tell the bad athletes. Tell me how cross country is 90% mental?
Wesley, kiddie basketball and little-league don't count as real sports unless you stick with them (and basketball is more skill-oriented than physically challenging).
DCI is not harder than football, no matter how long their day is. The fact remains that football players do much harder drills, work harder on the field, and have to be in much better shape than marching band members.
FOR THE LAST TIME, I THINK MARCHING BAND SHOULD BE A PE CREDIT. READ MY ENTIRE POST.
Any questions?

That's impossible. DCI doesn't let woodwinds in. And if he says that other sports are more physically demanding than marching band, who says he's fit enough to football?

lol Like Matt and Adamczyk and half the percussion section? Lucco hates band enough the way it is playing clarinet. He doesn't care enough to even try switching to brass or percussion.

Yeah, because stock-car racing is considered a sport even though the driver exerts no measurable movent inside the cockpit. All motor sports is is knowing how to control your car, when to pit, when to bust out in front and say RAWR RAWR RAWR IMMA TAKIN FIRST PLACE!!!

I don't hate band, I hate Mote. I'm in band for the music and because half my friends are in band, and there's almost nothing Mote can do to make me quit. As for caring, I care plenty, I just don't stress over everything that happens in the band when I have very little control over how it's run. Finally, I'm not switching instruments because I LIKE my instrument. I enjoy clarinet and bass clarinet, so I PLAY the instrument I LIKE. Why would I switch if I'm happy?
I'm in better shape than any of you. I work out every other day, run the days I work out, and I played tennis for 7 years. I know about staying fit, and very few of you have played a sport seriously, if at all (with the exception of Tyler and maybe a couple others), making me more knowledgable on fitness than any of you. On that note, I could play football if I wanted to, but I like band, so that's what I do. I'm good at band, and I know I'm not big enough to be very successful in football, but I could do it. If anyone wants to challenge that, I'm willing to prove I'm in better shape than you.
Another reason football is harder than marching band (even DCI): pads. You try putting on a full set of pads and a helmet, then doing wind sprints, push-ups, sit-ups, drills, pushing sledges, and sweating like hell while you do all of that. How many marching band injuries occur each year? How many football injuries occur each year? MARCHING BAND MEMBERS DON'T GET TACKLED. End of story. Marching band is not harder than other sports. I don't even think it qualifies as one.

the only reason i didn't play football in high school is because i got Pneumonia right after spring training, running 40's in only 30 pounds of pads and getting destroyed by huge senior line backers is hard but i have more difficulty marching
football may be physically straining but in my opinion it is alot easier then marching band, marching band requires alot of thought, the only thought that goes through my head while playing football is "kill"
now i want to run some Phillies with lucco

So marching band takes more mental and football takes more physical, OK? That is not going to change Lucco's mind that band isn't PHYSICALLY demanding compared to other sports.
