Men are like pancakes...no. I'm not trying to top that right now. I don't want to put the thought in. However, if I were to attempt, I would bring in butter, and possible whipped cream...

Lucco, what was up with you and Mote today?
And what happened at the leadership meeting?

I got tired of Mote and committed a thought crime.
In the leadership meeting, we asked Mote to stop singling people out in front of the band and giving us spirit-crushing speeches. He said no, only in more quantiful and pointy words.

Yeah, and told us that if he did what he said, he would be ignoring every mistake anyone made and we'd never make it to a competition. In other words, he made a poor attempt at making us look stupid, failed, and ignored us anyways.

That's dumb. The singling out people is not the problem. The problem is that Mote is taking it too far, and it's making people quit because they don't want to put up with it. It would be fine if Mote was like, "Derrick, you're not making it to your set in time. Make sure you dress to the people around you", or something. But instead, Mote is like, "Derrick, I have told you countless times that you and only you are screwing up this entire marching show. Seriously, stop failing and suck my dick."

That's what he told him. I already outlined his response, in which he took our suggestions to the extreme. I knew Mote would refuse to change, I just wanted to prove it to everyone else (however, he never fails to bring a new twist to his already prodigious assholiness). My plan to undermine his authority is slowly developing.
Mr. Mote is not complicated. He's a petty, lazy, wrinkled husk of what I'm relatively sure was once a very sad man. The thing is, I'm in his head. I know what he'll do when presented with a situation, when he'll do it, and why. He doesn't realize that I know that much about him, and he know's little to nothing about me. He's totally oblivious to what's going on in the band, and that's how I'll get him. His life is going to get a lot more difficult.

You just need to type up some stuff and present it to the next meeting. Make sure you are serious and you mean business.
Tell him that he might think he is right, but tell him the leadership is the band and the way you see it is the way it is.

Mr. Mote will never change. This has happened time and time again in bands years before us. He refuses to adhere to the leaderships' suggestions and the band pays the price. I did mean business, and I was serious. I made an effort to change things, and he shot it down with ignorance, like I predicted. He won't change for the band, he wants the band to change to him. Mr. Mote doesn't CARE about the band. All he wants is to make his job easy, and that means a small band. He may say he'd rather have a small band of dedicated people, but what he really wants is a small band of OBEDIENT people. The dedicated people are the ones who are quitting.
I'm in his head. I can see what he's thinking. I know what he's going to do, and how to manipulate him. What happened in class today was a test, and he did exactly what I wanted: he called me on it. First he was indignant, said exactly what I knew he'd say, and had me see him after class, just like I knew he would. He's easy to read.

Actually, I do know that. I've checked my facts, son. Derrick knows his scales, Mr. Mote just pressures the hell out of him. Jackass...

Okay then.
I had to pass off out of the TM book, and I had to draw the 12-bar-blues crap. Anyway, I drew it they EXACT SMAE WAY Mote drew it. I did it on Notebook paper and he's like "Oh, well, I would prefer it if you did it on staff paper."
He then looks at my repeat x3 sign. "What is this?" In a sarcastic tone. "I'm not sure what you were trying to do here," EVEN THOUGH IT'S EXACTLY THE WAY IT"S SUPPOSED TO LOOK!
GRAW!!!!!!!

Oy gevult...
If we approach Mr. Mote as an organized group and not a hateful angry mob, he will change.
I know I will be attacked for this, and only Lucco and I were at that meeting so we cannot really get a good viewpoint either way, but come on, we always overexaggerate and never forgive. Mr. Mote will never listen to us because we always approach him the wrong way. We have to gather the entire band to set things straight and confront Mr. Mote as an organized, rational group that wants to positively change the band and keep it strong.
I know vengeance seems like the easiest route here but it will solve nothing. I am not saying in any way we kiss ass or let anything slide, but we keep trying to take rash actions that will only show to Mr. Mote the wrong impression of us and our cause. I'm assuming everyone here wants to help to the band, to grow, to last, and to stay strong. Why don't we all approach our sections and get a consensus, one of rationality and objectivity, then approach Mr. Mote with our knowledge and opinions, our 98 Theses if you will.
And Lucco, did you not see anything in what either Mr. Mote or Roman was saying? Their message, although quite extreme on Mote's account, was spoken very well by Roman, who basically summed up the problem in one word: responsibility. That late (soul-crushing) speech that one time was because he was disappointed in us. Any other teacher would have given a speech about being on time. Seriously, guys, if Mr. Mote was trying to kill the band, he could have done it much easier. The problem is communication; neither party is willing/able to say what they want to say clearly.
Look, I want the band program to survive, for I love the arts, but for our situation, we have to reach a compromise. I can already predict the "Mote will never change", but I remember a very powerful phrase (probably from a movie, Braveheart, but none the less still great), "You know what happens if you don't take the chance? Nothing."
We have a chance. We can fix the band, but we need everyone. If there is division in the band we will fall, and if there is vengeance in our hearts, we will fail. We will avoid the real goals and indulge only in our own wants. Everyone has felt bored, angry, and sad in or for this band, myself included, but we cannot, cannot be controlled by these emotions. These are amongst the ones who will betray and fool us, blinding our eyes.
I ask of you all to think about the band, everything about the band, the good, the bad, and everything in between. Most importantly, think for yourself. Disregard my points completely until you approach them thoroughly for yourself. We need our own thoughts, we cannot be sheep. We oft time get caught in the moment and disregard our reason, but the time now is to think and focus.
I will end with these words. "Men often hate each other because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they can not communicate; they can not communicate because they are separated." An amazing quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that I believe upon which we should all ponder.
