Okay, I reposted it in the Band President thread, but I'm going to leave it here too, just because it goes along with what I was saying.

Michael, I'm not gonna lie. I consider you the epidimy of a band student. Just looking at your past posts on this forum makes it obvious that you're an exceptionally dedicated band student (you treat new trumpet mouthpeices you find like pirate treasure). What's more, you aren't a nazi about it. You aren't a super-dedicated person who demands the same from everyone. You expect a certain level of dedication to the band from your section and peers in general, which is great, but you aren't a nazi about people loving band as much as you do, which is better. I think that's great. When I think of an exceptional band student, I think of you.
I regret suggesting a massive exodus from the band. Not only would that separate kids from the institution they love, but it would be the opposite of solving anything. I've totally given up the idea, and wish I hadn't suggested it. I've decided that the way to help the band is to stay and try to work around Mote instead of giving up. I like to think that my recent action reflect that. I suggested the BK meeting on Friday, I've done a lot of brainstorming to help the band start succeeding again, and I came up with my 3 points of motivation. In other words, please stop bringing up the band exodus thing. It was a bad idea and I probably shouldn't have put it on the table, but I really don't want that to haunt me for the next 2 years.

Sorry. Like I said, I haven't read all the posts yet, and it slipped my mind that you said that while I was reading.

It's the same concept as our "unmovable object meets and unstoppable force" metaphor. Since Mote is a terrible leader that serves to demotivate the band, we need to try to nullify that. We have to find a way to make the band a success despite Mote's inability to do anything to help us do well.
