Hello everyone!
As you all know, I rocked the sh!t outta all of you at the most recent little get-together we had in Melee. Yes, I'm a cocky bastard, but you can't deny it: I proved myself, and it meant a lot to me that I was getting people awe-struck and that people actually WANTED to play me. I've never gotten that from the real Smash community; most of them think I suck. Hence why I have no teammate this Sunday xD
Anyway, Thomas Bauer(sp?) recently asked me at Summer School to train him in the arts of Melee. I asked him why, and he gave me this very inspirational response:
"All I've ever wanted to was to be a challenge to you in a game that you're good at, so I want to get good at Melee"
What does that say? The underlying meaning: You're my idol in video games.
That means a lot to me.
Also, Saturday, I was the last one to leave, and I saw a sort of...spark in BBQ. He was attempting to wavedash, l-cancel, etc... But he showed potential. Also, he has declared to me that he is willing to learn. Yes, I've heard this from, now, 6 people. The best person I ever 'trained' was Korey McDuffie, the now best Magic: The Gathering player in the state of GA. He plays Sheik, and could beat several of the people in tier 3 of the GA power rankings without even knowing how to wavedash or successfully L-cancel. I blame Sheik, but whatever.
So, my declaration to the general public is this: If anyone is SERIOUSLY willing to put forth an effort to learning how to play Melee, let me know. Thomas and Anthony are now my two little padowans, but I'm gladly willing to try and help other players get good. Eric Lee knows how to SHL with Falco, which is better than nothing, so he has kind of an edge on some people. However, Anthony can apparently beat Eric, so that would make Anthony (BBQ) the best Melee player attending Etowah High School. Nifty, isn't it?
But, once again, please don't say anything like "I want to play, but I just don't have time" or stupid johns like that. I want dedicated people to rub on my c0ck whenever I ask them to (har har, for Willis's humor mainly) and those who will actually learn how to L-cancel, wavedash, and essentially rape their thumbs in order to play this game.
I met a 10 year old last summer that could easily 2-3 stock all of you, and I don't want that to be so. So, I both offer and humbly request that some of you get a desire to play this excellent, unbalanced game.
Also, if anyone wants to Brawl anytime soon and wants pointers on their game, I suppose I'll still be willing to help some guys out every so often.
Peace, and be excellent to each other. My AIM is raykuthunder.

I've never versed Eric when he was in his prime, but I've seen him play and he was able to shffl and wavedash without trouble. I only recently played against Eric the last week of school because I thought it might be good for the GA Melee tournament, but he didn't display the same skill he did in November, like he said was his prime. I also did a 2-stock match with him (I was Link, he was Sheik), and I won that one, but he was in a rush to take a test. My 11 year old cousin is over today (the Marth that was beating my friends), and I showed him this youtube.com/watch?v=G6viaa76cAoand he wants to play more Melee now so I have someone I can practice against. HAHAHA manipulation.

just one question: are you willing to teach someone who wants to rape people with mewtwo and doesn't know fully how to l-cancel, wavedash, etc.? if so i'll do it, but if you want us to practice on our own time i gotta tell you, my copy of melee is in california right now along with the rest of my family's stuff and i do not know when we are going to get it transfered out here. but i am looking for someone who will let me borrow their copy for an extended amount of time.

I have 5 copies of Smash. 2 are lent out currently.
Mewtwo can mainly only do cool stuff against Fox, Falco, and Sheik, mainly because of their weight. He can 0-death some chars. if you're Taj. Learn how to L-cancel, wavedash, etc...That was the whole point of this thread, was to offer everyone a chance to learn how the pros play. That, obviously, does not, by ANY means, say that I'm pro. I'm actually quite terrible.
Also, if I let you borrow a copy of smash, I'll want a $10 deposit that will be returned with the game. I've gotten over 4 copies stolen because I Just lent them out.

I think our little community here needs to DI more. DI is probably as important as L-canceling. DI during a combo, DI while you're getting comboed, DI while you're getting chain-grabbed, DI when you get knocked off the stage, DI to sweet spot the edge, DI to not DIE.
I still haven't worked out all the DI yet, but I feel I have a good understanding and good applications of it.

I'm still working on DI to be honest. DI is essential, and takes lightning-fast reflexes.

Here is that quarter turn DI I was telling you about "A subtactic is the quarter-circle DI, which involves inputting multiple Smash DIs by rotating the control stick 90 degrees, resulting in a drastic decrease in knockback. Quarter-circle DI was introduced to America by Captain Jack and was known for a while as Japanese DI." Whenever I get launched off the edge I move my control stick wildly in a quarter-circle fashion and I think it works But this is what I really need to work on "A tactic is double stick DI which involves pointing both the control stick and the C-stick in 2 different directions so the player can alter the trajectory with the control stick and use the C-stick to control the Automatic Smash DI into a different direction from the direction being held on the control stick. This was later found out to be quite useful, especially when used to get the lowest angle of knockback while ASDI-ing straight downward to tech along the ground and survive high damage hits well beyond what is possible by taking the hit into the air." "especially when used to get the lowest angle of knockback while ASDI-ing straight downward to tech along the ground and survive high damage hits" I do this a lot by mistiming my spot dodges. Mwuahahaha too good.

Yeah, I've seen that before. Getting it down to play in competitive play is extremely difficult, however. It's just hard with consistency.
I know ChuDat can do every sort of DI in the books.

Hey I was thinking... Would it be worth it to get in the habit of L-canceling with Z if I use Z for aerial attacks?
Wait never mind, I'm reading an article about using C-stick for aerials so you can use analog stick for DI, and I want to start getting in the habit of this. I'll just L-cancel with L I guess.

The rape fest at Anthony's got me interested in Smash again, shortly after I finished breaking down...but what do you mean by training? Where and when would it be, and how would it work? I just want to know what I'm getting into before I get into it.

He'll probably just go to your house. That's what he did when he wanted to play smash.

I'd prefer training in DP, but that would be more advice than actual training (until you can battle).
What is the preliminary skill for training (for I know that Melee-wise, I am loooow on the skill chain)? Jason, if you don't have half of the school wanting to be tutored and I get my copy of Melee back soon, I'll take some training (quite frankly, any I can get).
EDIT: Despite wanting/needing training and knowing it would be from a wonderful teacher, I am unable to join the training for reasons of too much to do and those to be classified as other. I'm sorry.

Jason, should you expect money? I mean, after a while, training noobs all day may get too frustrating to do for free, unless you have a pure sense of trying to improve our area in smash skills.

wel if we all became super pro then we could dominate in some of the bigger tournments down here in the south for melee! that is in a year or 2 or so! (we really suck compared to pros) (think about if the pros think jason sucks and he thinks we suck then we must be really bad!!)

Heh. No money would be involved. The reward of a successful training session would be that you guys could actually beat a character of mine instead of me just wailing on you all day. I can train up to 3 people at a time, although mostly 'training' in Melee is all homework and depends SOLELY on the individual's work ethic. I trained 2 of my friends from middle school, Taylor and Mario, who would come over EVERY DAY of summer and play for at least 7 hours. The total times they beat me was 5, out of roughly 1500~ matches that summer (I remember I got the 10,000 vs. matches bonus at that time). Then, when I moved here and the little group we had went their separate ways, I trained Korey. He got pretty good, and could beat me when I was doing very poorly, but he never learned any advanced techs and soonthereafter I abandoned him as a friend due to his drug problem that he developed. I trained him for 2 years, and he got pretty decent, but I know of people that play Melee for 2 weeks and get almost as good as I am. How? Because they're playing with people who are ridiculously good (namely CA and NY peoplez), so their standards for 'casual play' are increased dramatically. There would be 'training sessions' if anyone wanted, in which I would go wherever the masses brought me. But, like I said, most of the 'training' is watching videos and doing homework. FAQ: Jason, how did you get so good if everyone you play is terrible? A: I watched videos. Lots of them, and studied them, and learned from those little tricks. It's only through these videos that I learned how the tricks could be APPLIED, because I know pretty much every little trick in the book. It's getting them to work that is the difficult part. Heh, that's pretty much the only FAQ I could think of. But yeah, if anyone would just let me go to their houses and let us meet up and just smash all the time, that'd be great. Something like what Anthony's birthday party was, only not so much a 'tournament' and not nearly as much of a timed matter. youtube.com/watch?v=4n4s5yB7ZkEyoutube.com/watch?v=xiZLs2doK8E&feature=relatedyoutube.com/watch?v=PFmGIOcWdsM&feature=relatedThose 3 links are your bible. Also, practice with each other in your spare time! Surprise me the next training session by showing me something you learned. If any of you are bold enough to take me on in a money match one day, I Dare You

I TOLD YOU GUYS THAT PRO VIDEOS MAKE YOU PRO!!!!!!!!!1
Tyler: Don't challenge Jason's Mewtwo, challenge his DK or Yoshi. On our next doubles tournament, we could have some training sessions. The tournament should be half as long as a singles tournament (since we're all paired up).

I don't know about the site, Lucco just sent it to me.
I still need to work on shorthopping without having to think about it.
