On the planet Earth, there are few things which can actually bring me above my 'boiling point.' I've learned to deal with stupid presidents, unfairness and cruelty, and the fact that school lunches will never actually improve. But there are some things which just anger me to no end, and one of them is Kidz Bop.
For those of you who are visually illiterate and have never seen a commercial even one day of your lives, Kidz Bop is a series of music albums for the children of today. Seems nice enough, right? Well, it's not. The owners of the Kidz Bop 'franchise', if you will, are Razor and Tie. You know what they do each year?
THEY STEAL MUSIC FROM ANY POPULAR ARTIST, LET KIDS SING IT, AND PUBLISH IT ON A CD!
But you know what? It's not the fact that they take the songs and put them on a CD. It's the fact that they have the audacity to charge TWENTY DOLLARS FOR MUSIC THAT DOESN'T EVEN BELONG TO THEM! That's just freakin' ludicrous. You know what's even worse, though? No one's ever taken legal action against Razor and Tie.
By show of hands, how many people out there have downloaded music from websites or file sharing services? I expect you all to raise your hand and be prepared for the following information. The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) wouldn't hesitate to jump down one of our throats and sue us for illegally downloading music, but when a company steals music and actually tries to make a profit from it, the RIAA just pretends it didn't happen, which is pretty hard since Razor and Tie make a new Kidz Bop EVERY YEAR.
But maybe I'm not looking at this the right way. People like GoRemy of YouTube fame and Weird Al parody songs all the time, and they never get in trouble. So why should Razor and Tie be any different? BECAUSE THEY DON'T PARODY AT ALL. They make their own 'covers' of the music by having kids sing it and changing the pitch and key! And even those people on YouTube and Weird Al make their own original songs from time to time. Razor and Tie, however, just steal from others, make slight changes, and make truck loads of money doing the same thing EVERY YEAR!
So maybe I should do this? Maybe its not illegal at all. Perhaps I should go take my copy of the first Harry Potter book, change the main character to a 20 year old man named Jack, stick them in suburban New York and call it "Jack Potter and the Magician's Rock" Oh wait, that would be PLAGIARISM.
