 this contrabass trombone was made in 1639 by Georg Nicolaus Oller. it must be held by a gloved hand to protect its fragile nature now that it's so old. It stands about 6-7 feet tall. |

"The subcontrabass tuba is an extension of the tuba family below the modern contrabass tuba. At least five known examples have been created, all pitched in BBB, sounding a full octave lower than standard BB-flat contrabass tubas. Music for them is written in bass clef sounding a full octave lower than notated and its range, in the hands of a master, has been said to descend to C-2, the C two full octaves below the lowest C on a piano. This tuba is "playable", but two persons are needed; one to operate the valves and one to blow into the mouthpiece."     (That last one is a contrabass bugle.)  Justin, your trombone picture was a normal bass trombone. THIS is a contrabass trombone/cimbasso.  And THIS can be your new avatar.  I want a jazzaphone!  Or a normaphone.  And an echo trumpet.... Wow, people have come up with some crazy instrument ideas. Mr. Johnson said he's played all the intruments before. Think he still has that accomplishment?

he has played all of the basic instruments
there are way to many different instruments to ever play them all
basicly because every thing you can pick up is an instrument capable if making music
