I love RPG's. They were the first videos games I ever played (Pokemon).
I thought abut it and wondered, what is the greatest of them?
I'll cast my vote later...

LOL THIS IS JUST ASKING FOR A FLAME WAR.
I personally think that Golden Sun is the best in terms of RPG. Fire Emblem is also great because it requires me to think rather than press a button for some silly magical attack.
Haven't played the Tales series so I couldn't say anything about that.
Pokemon is annoying me now...I'll never become a Pokemon Master if Nintendo keeps screwing me over by adding 100 new Pokemon each year.
Haven't played Magical Starsign either.
Final Fantasy. It was good...Then they went 3D. It was okay in 3D but then they made Kingdom Hearts, ruining my favorite Disney characters. Then they made those crappy spin off games...Seriously, Revenant Wings and Chocobo Tales? WTF, Square Enix. WTF...

place your vote then.
And yeah, aside from the regular numbered games, the FF Tactics games are the only good ones.

I'm actually torn. I love the story and world in Golden Sun, but the amazing Flex-Range Linear Motion Battle System in the Tales of... games is just pure win. Especially Tales of Symphonia.

THE HELL IS THE REASON FOR NOT INCLUDING THE ZELDA GAMES?

THE HELL IS THE REASON FOR NOT INCLUDING THE ZELDA GAMES? Those aren't RPGs... The Legend of Zelda series is defined as an Action Adventure game with occasional platforming. RPGs usually have the following characteristics: 1: You can name your character. 2: You play as more than 1 character. 3: You level up.

ZELDA GAMES DO ALL OF THAT AND YOU CAN'T NAME YOUR CHARACTER IN FIRE EMBLEM GAMES

ZELDA GAMES DO ALL OF THAT AND YOU CAN'T NAME YOUR CHARACTER IN FIRE EMBLEM GAMES Since when does TLOZ allow you to play as more than one character? Aside from the crappy CDI game where you could play as Zelda, I don't recall a Zelda game doing that, and I've played just about everyone except Four Swords. Besides, RPGs use the "Party" system, in which you play as multiple characters at the same time. By leveling up I mean actual leveling up. As in going through the bothersome task of slaying monsters to gain experience points. As for the character renaming thing, it does not occur in an FE game except for FE7 where you can rename the tactician.

Yeah, I was kidding. Why isn't KOTOR on the list?

Yeah, I was kidding. Why isn't KOTOR on the list? Because Lucas should have killed Star Wars after the fifteenth game and 4th animated series.

he said generally and you level up in all the other games still and no, more hearts and different weapons is not leveling up Final Fantasy is definitely the best. And not just the numbered ones either (well, XI sucked, and XII was pure boring -.-). Yes, chocobo whatever sucks, but Tactics, Tactics A2, Revenant wings, Crystal Chronicles, and Crisis Core were all amazing. And the Kingdom Hearts games will forever be an obsession of mine (give me my 258 over 2!!!!) And just as a note, X-2 (not to be mistaken with XII. its actually a sequel to X) is only for perverts who like to watch women wearing almost nothing jump around and shoot/slash/bash stuff while the gamer wildly presses buttons.

Does Kingdom Hearts count as FF? It falls under the category of Spin-offs and Hybrids, so I assume it would.

Jimmy! Shame on you! Tales of Symphonia (and the other Tales games) use a far superior battle system to Final Fantasy (except XII, which comes in second). Furthermore, the Tales of games generally have much deeper story lines than the FF titles.
A good number of them (Final Fantasy) are "Save the World for no reason".

Jimmy! Shame on you! Tales of Symphonia (and the other Tales games) use a far inferior battle system to Final Fantasy (except XII, which comes in second). Furthermore, the Tales of games generally have less deep story lines than the FF titles because they copy them from FF. A good number of them (Final Fantasy) are "Save the World for no reason". Fix'd. You can't tell me that Symphonia didn't copy its "chosen one" from FFX's summoner. Go on quests, gain powers, eventually sacrifice yourself for the good of the world, right? Legendia doesn't have a storyline, so there's negative points for the games. Arcadia was a good game (that you will bring to school on monday so that i can borrow it), but it still didn't have the character depth that is put into FF characters. You can describe every Tales character with one or two words (Lloyd= determined and independent; Collette = klutzy and kind), which you can't do with FF characters. As for the battle system, if you have the right weapon, skills and are on the right level (aka overleveled) you can button mash the A and B buttons and win with minimal casualties/item usage.

But the free-range style of the Tales games is better than the traditional tunr based system.
